Raw Chocolate Fix Bites: and Fair Trade Chocolate

It was one of those nights when I was really craving something chocolatey and just needed chocolate mixed with anything STAT, so here’s how I got my chocolate fix.

I got my hands on a really wonderful 72% dark chocolate by Endangered Species Chocolate (Indulge In A Cause). The chocolate is made with Fair Trade cocoa beans, meaning they were sourced from farmers that use ethical practices to ensure quality, and environmental protection.

Sometimes I feel like the world is falling apart, and other times I realize there are really awesome things going on; like healthy, straight-forward, Fair Trade food products being invented for us to consume; products made by sustainable practices to prevent harming our environment, and made with quality resources to protect our bodies; produced by companies that deserve a big THANK YOU <3

After suffering from over-indulging in processed foods that are made with harmful ingredients, it’s amazing to finally be able to enjoy something that is more pure for my body.. all thanks to the companies that made it with pure methods and intentions… like the company that made this Fair Trade chocolate. 

Back To The Bites

The ingredients are a little random as far as flavor, but I was going for something that was going to be filling, so that’s why I thought oats and almond butter would be really good as a base; both have a good amount of protein, and oats contain soluble fiber that supposedly helps us stay fuller longer.

I added shredded coconut for texture and body, and I added chia seeds for some superfood power (omega fatty super powers, that is… chia seeds are also another good source of protein ).

I added maple syrup because the chocolate I used is on the bitter side, but if you’re using semi-sweet chocolate or something like that, you might not even need anything.

Raw Chocolate Fix Bites

A satisfying supertreat made with oats to keep you full.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 6 squares dark chocolate (about 1 oz.)
  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 tbsp chia seed
  • 1/4 cup coconut flakes

Instructions

  1. Melt the coconut oil, almond butter and dark chocolate together. Add the maple syrup. Set aside. 

  2. Using a food processor or blender (I used my Nutribullet) blend the oats and chia seed together into a powdery-like mixture, and then add this to the chocolate mixture. Then, add the coconut flakes and mix everything together. 

  3. Line a plate or baking sheet with parchment paper, roll the mixture into little bites, and place in the freezer for about 15 minutes.  

  4. Store in the fridge. Enjoy! 

These treats make a good breakfast with a smoothie as well.
